Christian Lorca | Conductor Christian Lorca is one of the most prominent and versatile Chilean conductors of his generation. He currently serves as the Assistant Conductor at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago – National Opera of Chile, a position from which he has established himself as a leading figure in both the lyrical and symphonic scenes. Recent Highlights and Upcoming Engagements His international career was recently bolstered by winning the Third Prize at the 2026 Plovdiv State Opera International Competition in Bulgaria, an achievement that follows his First Prize at the Salta Symphony Orchestra International Competition in 2019. In Chile, 2025 marked a year of significant milestones, including his successful debuts with the USACH Classical Orchestra and the Maule Classical Orchestra. For the current season, Lorca will reach a major career landmark with his operatic debut at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, conducting the production of Ch. Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. Symphonic Repertoire and Collaborations Lorca has maintained a close and fruitful collaboration with the National Symphony Orchestra of Chile, leading programs of high technical and aesthetic complexity. His repertoire includes masterpieces such as: C. Debussy’s Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. M. Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin. L. van Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9. Juan Orrego-Salas’ Festive Overture. Throughout his career, he has conducted the region's leading ensembles, including the Philharmonic Orchestras of Santiago and Temuco, the Symphony Orchestras of Concepción, Antofagasta, La Serena, Copiapó, and the Orquesta de la Mitad del Mundo in Ecuador. Notably, in 2025, he participated in the acoustic tuning of the National Grand Symphonic Hall, a historic event for Chile's cultural infrastructure. Opera and Ballet In the realm of ballet, he received critical acclaim in 2024 following his debut with the Ballet de Santiago in the production Nijinska, Secreto de la Vanguardia. During the 2025/2026 period, he takes on the musical direction for P.I. Tchaikovsky’s iconic productions, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Education and Teaching He holds a Master of Music (Orchestral Conducting) from the University of Chile, where he studied under Maestro Nicolás Rauss. He has further refined his craft in masterclasses with international figures such as Nicolás Pasquet, Ennio Nicotra, Andrew Constantine, and Lior Shambadal. He has collaborated with renowned conductors including Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, Paolo Bortolameolli, Rodolfo Fischer, and Diego Matheuz. Parallel to his conducting career, he is deeply involved in education, working with the National Foundation for Youth and Children's Orchestras of Chile (FOJI) and the Institute of Music at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Hitos Recientes y Próximos Compromisos Su trayectoria ha sido reconocida internacionalmente con el Tercer Premio en el Concurso Internacional de la Ópera Estatal de Plovdiv 2026 (Bulgaria), éxito que se suma a su triunfo en el Primer Premio del Concurso Internacional de la Orquesta Sinfónica de Salta (2019). En el ámbito nacional, 2025 marcó un año de hitos significativos: su exitoso debut junto a la Orquesta Clásica USACH y su debut con la Orquesta Clásica del Maule. Para la presente temporada, Lorca enfrentará uno de sus mayores desafíos artísticos al asumir la dirección musical de Roméo et Juliette de Ch. Gounod en el Teatro Municipal de Santiago. Repertorio Sinfónico y Colaboraciones Lorca ha consolidado una relación estrecha con la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile, donde ha liderado programas de alta complejidad técnica y estética. Bajo su batuta ha interpretado obras maestras como: El Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune de C. Debussy. Le Tombeau de Couperin de M. Ravel. La monumental Sinfonía No. 9 de L. van Beethoven. La Obertura Festiva del compositor nacional Juan Orrego-Salas. A lo largo de su carrera, ha dirigido las principales agrupaciones de la región, incluyendo las orquestas filarmónicas de Santiago y Temuco, las sinfónicas de Concepción, Antofagasta, La Serena, Copiapó y la Orquesta de la Mitad del Mundo en Ecuador. Asimismo, destaca su participación en 2025 en las afinaciones acústicas de la Gran Sala Sinfónica Nacional, un evento histórico para la música en Chile. Ópera y Ballet En el género del ballet, recibió una excelente acogida de la crítica en 2024 tras su debut con Nijinska, Secreto de la Vanguardia junto al Ballet de Santiago. Durante el periodo 2025/2026, asume la responsabilidad musical de las emblemáticas producciones de P.I. Tchaikovsky, El Lago de los Cisnes y El Cascanueces. Formación y Docencia Posee un Magíster en Interpretación Musical (Dirección Orquestal) por la Universidad de Chile, donde se formó con el maestro Nicolás Rauss. Ha perfeccionado su técnica en clases magistrales con figuras internacionales como Nicolás Pasquet, Ennio Nicotra, Andrew Constantine y Lior Shambadal. Ha colaborado con destacados directores como Roberto Rizzi Brignoli, Paolo Bortolameolli, Rodolfo Fischer y Diego Matheuz. En paralelo, desarrolla una activa carrera pedagógica trabajando con la Fundación de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles (FOJI) y el Instituto de Música de la Universidad Católica de Chile.
